The museum was honored to receive a 2025 Ohio Museums Association Visual Communication Silver Award for our Hometown History column. The column was started in February 2025 as part of the museum’s efforts to connect Jackson County residents with the amazing history right outside their doors. Museum Director Ashley Aldrich writes the column and accepted the award on behalf of the museum at the Ohio Museums Association Awards Dinner, which takes place during the association’s annual conference.
The Visual Communication Competition recognizes creative excellence in Ohio museums by its field professionals and organizations that produce materials for museums. Entries were judged on the overall design of the piece, its appropriateness to the message, its effectiveness for the audience, and its function.
Entries in the 2025 Visual Communication Awards were judged against all entries in their respective budget category. Gold and Silver awards were made in each budget category where merited, with one entry receiving the overall Best of Show Award.
Budget categories are based on each institution’s operating budget for the year, not on the budget used to create the individual pieces.
Budget Categories are as follows:
- Level 1: budgets less than $50,000
- Level 2: $50,000-$249,999
- Level 3: $250,000-499,999
- Level 4: $500,000-$999,999
- Level 5: $1 million-$5 million
- Level 6: budgets over $5 million
The museum plans to continue Hometown History, and we thank The Telegram for the opportunity to publish our work.
